As an outdoor education centre and summer camp, Camp Warwa must be a positive role model for other organizations and our clients. In planning for the future Camp Warwa has committed to implementing sustainable building practices in order to lower our impact on our immediate and local environment. Some of these initiatives include using renewable energy sources, using energy efficient appliances, use of natural light, water conservation and efficiency, continued waste reduction and increased recycling. Camp Warwa hopes to be able to use our site as an educational tool in and of itself. |

Camp Warwa is bullfrogpowered with 100% green electricity. In fact, Camp Warwa is the first camp in Alberta to partner with Bullforg Power and take measurable steps to reducing our carbon footprint.
Bullfrog Power is Canada's leading provider of 100% green, carbon-free electricity. Electricity is sourced exclusively from clean, renewable generation facilities in Alberta that have received Environment Canada's EcoLogo certification. The wind power generated on our behalf displaces power from carbon-intensive sources like coal and natural gas.
As a result of our partnership with Bullfrog Power, Camp Warwa will remove 33 tonnes of CO2, 85 kg of SO2 and 56 kg of NOx. |
But switching to bullfrogpower is not enough. Here are some more immediate, tangible ways that Camp Warwa is affecting our environment:
- Replacing all lights with CFL bulbs
- Replacing exit sign bulbs with LED bulbs
- Replacing old lighting ballasts with more efficient lighting ballasts
- Using high recycled content tissues and paper
- Using Green Seal cleaning supplies
- Increased use of on-site compost and rain water |
If you have any questions or ideas about Camp Warwa's green practices, please let us know (info@campwarwa.org). We hope that through our actions and programs we can build positive relationships with the natural environment and inspire the stewards of and for the future. |
